Smithfield Ferme company, the local subsidiary of the U.S. pork processor, posted positive operating profit in the first half of 2009, when special programs to analyze spending and cut costs were applied in order to optimize production, according to company officials.order
For the end of 2009, the company maintains previous estimates regarding a 20 percent increase in turnover compared to the €120 million posted in 2008.
The company already finalized 99 percent of its investment plans for 2009. In the following years, it plans to develop partnerships with local independent farmer to build and operate some 100-150 farms.
