Marex alcohol producer enters the biofuel market

The Braila-based Marex group, operating in the field of meat and alcohol, entered the biofuel market, following a €5 million investment in a bioethanol factory.

“We built the first bioethanol factory in Romania. Construction work was recently finalized, but we have not yet started production, as we are waiting for the agricultural campaign to end,” Marin Moraru, the company’s General Manager and owner, told Business Standard.

The factory has an annual production capacity of 10 million liters.

Marex’s management is considering building a biodiesel factory for the processing of fat waste from slaughter houses, the company’s meat product factory, and of sub products from the processing of soya beans for fodder and residual methyl alcohol. Moreover, Marex plans to produce biogas and is developing a project which is to be finalized by the end of 2009.
