Bulgarian livestock farmers will receive nearly 135 million GBN (70 million euros) in subsidies from the national government this year in order to support the Bulgarian cattle industry and to increase the level of beef production, according to local media reports.
Recently Boiko Sinapow, the chairman of the Bulgarian National Association of Animal Breeders stressed that the industry is „teeter on the precipice”.
Local farmers have already warned the domestic government that without sufficient support, the cattle population of Bulgaria could fall to a very low level of 50,000 animals.
According to Bulgaria Agriculture Minister, Miroslav Naydenov, all the payments will be fully made to farmers in January and February. Naydenov said that the provided funds amounted to over BGN 135 millions which will be far more than initial farmers’ demands in the amount of 90 millions BGN.
